Nearly 150 jobseekers called in to the Pakistani Community Centre in Glodwick to find out about local jobs and training opportunities at a careers fair organised by North West housing provider Regenda.
“It was a very busy day, but it was a tremendous success. We know that ten people have already been recruited by Avon Cosmetics, which is a fantastic result, and we are expecting to hear more good news over the next few weeks,” commented Verity Mason, project officer at Regenda. “People travelled in from all over Oldham and we’re hoping to hold a similar event in the Limehurst area soon for those who couldn’t make it.”
Local employers Blue Arrow, Allied Health Care, Greater Manchester Fire Service, Groundwork and the Royal Air Force went along to sign up new workers. Oldham Community Leisure even used the event to promote the new gym and pool in Glodwick and look for a swimming instructor to run lessons. Agencies including Jobcentre Plus, Next Step, Rathbone and Regenda’s worklessness co-ordinator Marcus Johnstone were on hand to provide advice and support to anyone interested in training for a new career or signing up for an apprenticeship.
